I talked to Maryam today and she was kind enough to explain the organization chart to me. As for the history and background of Batey Ads, she would pass me the CD some other day. I had time to talk to Maryam today because I had nothing much to do when I came in at 8.30 a.m.
Just when I thought that I'd be bored to death, the Group Account Director, Abbas (my mentor) told me attend a meeting at 10.30 a.m. in the conference room. Only 5 of us were at the meeting: me, Abbas, Rachel, Clifford and the CEO's brother, Julian Lee. We discussed about the upcoming event that is gonna be held on Sunday, 23rd of October 2005. It's a Road Safety Campaign by the JKJR (Jabatan Keselamatan Jalan Raya). It's called "Kempen Keselamatan Musim Perayaan Deepavali dan Hari Raya Aidilfitri" and the theme is "Pandu, Tunggang dan Jalan dengan Selamat" (Drive, Ride and Walk Safely). We are having a roadshow at KL Central and it's gonna be launched by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The Minister of Transport, YB Dato' Sri Chan Kong Choy is gonna be there too. It's a major event and I feel honored to be part of it. We are going there on Saturday morning to set up the booth.
From 12 noon to 3 p.m., Clifford (the Account Manager) and I worked together to come up with the description for the press ads. Then at 3.30 p.m., Abbas, Clifford, Rachel, Puven and I adjourned to the production house in Bandar Utama for the the offline video editing for the "Hentikan" music video. The music video is for the event on Sunday. Abbas explained that the offline editing is putting all the different shots together and any necessary changes should be made during the offline editing. Online editing is the FA (Final Artwork) of the video. If changes were made during the online editing, it would be very costly.
I started to notice the relationships between my colleagues today. Although in general, they seem like a one big, happy family... but I could see that a few of them are very unfriendly and humorless. Hui Ling (she's one of the FA Artists) is a very fussy person. Everytime someone from the Account Management Department comes up to talk to her regarding the visuals, she would practically yell at them. She complains a lot and she talks very loudly. I never talked to her before... as she is so unfriendly. Dun think that she's a stuffy middle-aged spinster; she's just a 20-something girl who's quite attractive... when she doesn't talk. She looks kinda sweet... but once she opens her mouth, all hell breaks loose. No kidding... she's really mean to everyone. I wonder what her problem is.
Besides her, there are 2 guys in this agency who dun have much sense of humor either and they are Julian and Julius Lee. They are the CEO, Tony Lee's, brothers. Thank God we have ppl like Clifford, Puven and Abbas to make us laugh... they are the funniest guys in the agency. They like to tease me and they can be really silly... hehehe... I can't believe that they are actually the Account Manager, the Copywriter and the Group Account Director... Hahaha...
On our way back to the office from the production house, Abbas was complaining about my AV Director, Ronnie Lim. He said that the way Ronnie asked him about re-shooting the scenes really pissed him off cuz Ronnie sounded like he was informing Abbas more than asking for his approval. And Abbas felt that Ronnie only cared about finding talents for TVCs and radio ads but he didn't care much about the client's needs and wants. Moreover, Ronnie was being disrespectful to Abbas because when Abbas gave some constructive criticisms on the video, Ronnie didn't look very happy and he made a sarcastic comment . At the production house, they had a small tiff over the props. The rest of us were just listening to them uncomfortably.
Hmm... this incident is gonna be part of my case study... =P
