Sentenced to death: Afghan who dared to read about women's rights



A young man, a student of journalism, is sentenced to death by an Islamic court for downloading a report from the Internet. The sentence is then upheld by the country's rulers. This is Afghanistan – not in Taliban times but six years after "liberation" and under the democratic rule of the West's ally Hamid Karzai.

I'm not convinced that sufficient pressure can be placed by the international community on Afghanistan, since such pressures are viewed as foreign interference and unIslamic.

A better bet would be to lobby OIC via CDHRI (which would still be a long shot due to obvious reasons).

And let's not discount the fact that Mr. Sayed's death sentence may be politically motivated and nothing to do with women's rights or blasphemy .....
